NEW BRITAIN –Mayor Erin Stewart was appointed to a vice chair position of the Capital Region Council of Government.
“We are going to have great representation from the mayor and as the vice chair, it’s really going to be a major emphasis for us to move forward in our planning efforts and infrastructure, environment, and transportation,” Alderman Daniel Salerno said at Wednesday night’s Common Council meeting.
CRCOG is a voluntary council of local governments formed to initiate and implement regional programs of benefit to municipalities and the region. It is guided by the chief elected officials of 38 Metro Hartford municipalities. Its governing policy board is made up of mayors, first selectman, and Town Council members, according to its website.
Additionally, the organization works on projects such as promoting efficient transportation systems, preserving land and advocating for the region and its towns.
“I am excited about my new role and I’m looking forward to push good regional projects that have an impact on the success of the capital region,” Stewart said following the meeting.
